    I just updated WordPress to the latest security release 2.8.3 - I noticed that Akismet has a new version (2.2.7) even though it's not listed in the changes (2.8.2 to 2.8.3). The new variable added (AKISMET_VERSION) still lists the last version 2.2.6.
