• After I upload a theme, all I see in admin menu “presentation” is the name of the theme and a blank box. If I click to switch to the new theme, and then try to view my blog all I see is a blank screen. I have seached this forum for the answer but can’t find it. Help please…..

  • Which theme are you using? I don’t think the blank box under presentation is the issue because if there is no screenshot of the theme there is no preview. Can you get back in to Presentation to switch back your theme?

Yes, I am able to switch back to the two themes that come with the program. I have tried 3 new thmes so far, “green-marinee”, “stucco”, and “ocadia”. I get back in my menu by the back button on my browser, all I get with the new themes is a blank preview box in the presentation menu and a blank screeen on my blog page.

At first I was haveing the “no style sheet present” problem, but I fixed that. I was making a mistake when I unziped the file and then uploaded one to many levels, but I can’t figure out what is wrong now. Thanks for the reply.

P.S. I maintain another website that has an older version of WordPress, I think it’s 1.5, and I had no problems with uploading and changing themes.

I think I found the problem. When I upload with FileZilla, I get the files, but with no data. The data is there when I look at the files in “my documents” folder, but after I upload them, they have no data, each file says 0kb. I still haven’t solved the problem yet. I am going to try a differant upload program.

I use FileZilla. I like it better then CuteFTP or WS-FTP…

Do the file permissions look ok?

Well, I tried to upload the files in my websites file manger, the files are there, the data is there, I viewed the datat with the editor, but still nothing in the preview box in the presentation widow.

All the premissions are at 644 after uploading, I changed them to 755, which is the same as the two themes that come with wordpress, so I’m at frustrated again…arrrggghhhh…lol

Well, I discovered the problem. It’s my laptop, for some reason when I try an FTP transfer on my laptop, it will not tranfer the actual data, it just transfer the file names, but not the content in the file. Does anyone have any idea why that would happen?

    I’m running 2.01, I installed green-marinee into…

    wp-content > themes > green-marinee > theme files

    It worked for me.

You said that FileZilla was giving you problem with uploading the theme. If you had just install WordPress maybe FileZilla didn’t get all the files up.

    Edit:

If you have tried something other than FileZilla and it’s still not working. I would contact the web host and see if it’s something on their end. Have you started with a knew ISP maybe they are blocking the files some how.

Need more info about laptop (OS, FTP program) to help.

Doesn’t sound familiar, though (the 0 byte file creation thing).

I tried the upload on a desktop computer at the church I attend, it worked fine. I use smartftp at church to upload files. The method I was using at church was to manually create the directories in my website control panel and then upload just the files themselves to the directories. This worked fine. I then tried to uplaod the whole theme folder intact and it worked great as well. So, no problem with uploading themes on the computer at church.

When I got home I tried the same process, I manually created the directories, then uploaded just the files, but with no success. All I would get is the file names but no content, each file size would read 0kb. So, it has to be a problem with my laptop. Oh, by the way I have been using filezilla on my laptop.

I don’t know if this may be relevant, but for about 2 months now I have been unable to get smartftp to connect to my website. I then tried internet explorer ftp and it would always try to connect aynomusly, I had to click on file tab and click “login as” to get it to connect. So, the problem with smartftp is that it will not let me switch off the aynomous ftp. Now, you nay ask, why mention this? Well I didn’t have this problem till I upgraded from smartftp 1.5 to 2.0. So, my question is this, could something have been changed in my port settings when I upgraded to smartftp 2.0 that is affecting my ability to do FTP transfers?

I know that I will most likey have to ask the smartftp techs this question, but if anyone has any ideas here I would appreciate any suggestions.

I have a gateway laptop running windows xp home edition, with windows firewall and avg as my virus protection.

By, the way, I tried turning of my firewall, but it made no differance.

This is where I have to get off. I’m a Mac user.

    Best off luck,

    lqz
