After Upgrade Attempt Apache, MySQL toast (1 post)

My WordPress 2.9.1 blog is self-hosted on my own dedicated server running WAMP Apache and MySQL. It had run perfectly for 4 months. I followed all of the online instructions and the initial install went smoothly.

Last week I "attempted" to install the All-in-1-SEO ad-in. I write attempt because I believe it never completed and caused all of my current problems.

When I tried to troubleshoot the MySQL database, I could log into the Admin page, but this warning was across the bottom:

"The mbstring PHP extension was not found and you seem to be using a multibyte charset. Without the mbstring extension phpMyAdmin is unable to split strings correctly and it may result in unexpected results."

Then when I tried to stop and restart the WAMPapache service it would do neither. It is hung on Status: "Starting". Now my website and my blog are down. Rebooting the server changes nothing.

How can I roll-back the SEO add-in (assuming that caused the problem) or reinstall WP 2.9.1 without causing any damage?

    Thank you.
