    Today Automatic Updating to WP3.02 failed on my site. So, I followed the instructions to update manually.
    After deleating old and uploading new, I'm supose to click the automatic updating button again on dashboard. But this button still failed.
    So, now I have new WP 3.02 files, and my site is working fine. The only thing worries me is the failed updating process. From my understanding, this process will register new files in the system to allow old installation working with new files. Hope I am wrong.
    Should I do something to fix this?

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins.
    - switching to the Twenty Ten theme/
    - re-running the upgrade process via wp-admin/upgrade,php

    1 yes, I deactivated all plugins;
    2.no, didn't switch to TwentyTen, instead I went to cpanel to delete the .maitainess file so that I can open my site;
    3.yes, I re-run the updating from the dashboad. Although it shows I'm already on newst version, but I still clicked the Automatic update. But the Auto updating still failed.

    But the Auto updating still failed.

    How do you know it has failed?

    because it says so. After the "unpacking..." running for a while, it returns message saying "update failed, can't create...directory".

    Change the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767 or 777. If your update works, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

    If you still can't update, try contacting your hosts - it could be a file ownership issue.

    changed wp-content to 777, still failed. it says:
    Could not create directory.: /public_html

    I think it should not create /publi_html directiory becuase it's the directory for all domains and folders. it's the parent directory of the domain that running WordPress.
