I don’t think it’s possible. once comments are gone they re gone, inless of course you have backups 😉
Well, it’s weird actually, because the comments that were deleted from original same posts, are in old backup of blog. And newer comments are of course still on current blog, just not the older original comments.
Example:
Original Blog Post With All Comments intact.
domain.com/id/post1234
comment 1
comment 2
comment 3
comment 4
comment 5
comment 6
Current Blog Post With Some Comments Deleted.
domain.com/id/post1234
comment 1
comment 3
comment 5
I was thinking, if I deleted the /post1234 itself (from old backup copy).. leaving comments left behind/dangling there.. and deleted only comment 1, comment 3, comment 5 …. It would import comment 2, comment 4, commeny 6 .. Then still be tacked on to /post1234 .. and be in proper order as once was.. But I’m not sure if deleting a post itself, would delete all the comments either.

Hello all,
I haven’t been in the WordPress scheme of things for a long time, but was wondering if it’s possible to delete posts, leaving behind their comments. Then import xml for wordpress into existing wordpress which has the same posts, if it would keep the post’s comments from previous copy?
I have a copy on live site with wordpress currently, but before I had removed specific comments only. In the older copy of wordpress blog, I have same posts with same exact IDs for the posts, and comments / time / date etc.. I’m just looking to import only the “lost comments” or “deleted comments” again.
Or is there a way to “merge” duplicate posts with current posts? I was thinking if I could delete the duplicate comments from older copy, and the post itself .. it would leave behind only the comments that were missing from current/live wordpress copy.. Then make export / xml file.. and import just what’s missing.
I hope this is perhaps possible? Thanks in advance. 🙂
