    I think I have a major problem with our blog at http://lagiraudiere.com/blog/

    It started when I updated to the latest version of wordpress 3.4.2 when I had problems with loading images etc, The day before yesterday I could not log in and I tried a password recovery but this sent me into a loop. I then followed some advice which told me to use the PHP MyAdmin to alter the passwords well this then presented further problems as I tried to find the correct database by looking at the config.php file etc;

    The situation at this present time is when I go to the blog I receive the following error message

    Error establishing a database connection
    If I try to log in as admin then I receive this message
    Error establishing a database connection
    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at mysql5.namesco.net. This could mean your host's database server is down.
    · Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    · Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    · Are you sure that the database server is running?

    My version PHP 5.3.17
    System Linuxscary.hosts.co.uk
    My sql 4.1.22

    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Paul

    Check your wp-config.php and see if you have the correct DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD and DB_HOST.

    Thank you for your post, when you say check I presume you mean open up the file on the server via my ftp and if so what do I use a simple text editor or notepad+ ?
    sorry to ask what may be an obvious question but a little new to this.

    It may not be safe to edit the file online, unless you are quite experienced with it. You can download a copy from your site and check the four inputs (as I said above) and see if they are correct. The problem (error establishing...) generally occurs because of incorrect inputs in those four fields. You can edit the file using a plane text editor such as notepad, though Notepad++ is more safer.

    Thanks I transfered the file over via FTP to my computer and opened it using notepad+ and here are the results;

    I think or presume these are fine how should I check they are correct?

    Please delete the above code immediately. DO NOT POST SUCH SENSITIVE INFO in a public forum.

    Edit: Did you check whether the posted info is correct?

    Even if you delete the post make sure you get that password changed.

    Ok sorry about the sensitive info was not thinking, have deleted the post and also changed the password via phpMyAdmin but as I said I think the DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD and DB_HOST are as I would exspect them to be.

    If they are correct, replace the current file (if different) and see if the problem is solved.

    Hi I have changed the file with one I had on my computer but still no change. Not sure if the copy I had was in fact a copy of what was already on the server.

    Should I download a new copy from wordpress tomorrow. Thanks for your help this evening unfortunately need some sleep after a very frustrating day on the computer.

    Will re start posts again tomorrow evening after work
