I installed WordPress at my current host (but they do not support it) so I can test and develop my design. I only have one post as it is not live. Before I go further I want to move it to its permanent space.

This space is ready. Is it worth me exporting anything (databases, etc) from the current site to move to the new one or IS IT OK to just install WP at the new location and then import the .xml file OR just upload my theme files and plugins.

I want to do it the correct way and not lose anything but since I only have one post (and I have hard copy) I feel like there is nothing to lose. I have everything else locally.

You could follow Moving WordPress instructions

    or

Do Tools->Export at the old blog and Tools->Import->WordPress at the new blog

If you customized themes and plugins and/or uploaded images you might want to backup those folders and reupload those to your new host.

If it's just one post, I'd just copy and paste the post after installing the new blog.

Well what I was wondering if I even need to export anything. I have the themes/plugins/ and hard copy of post all locally.

So do yo think a clean install at the new host? And then just upload my theme and content?

    Sounds good.

Could do a Tools->Export just in case you decide you need something from the old blog...like users or categories or tags.
