Advice on eCommerce project

    Hi all,

    A potential client has come to me looking for an eCommerce website to be setup, they want to sell various health food products on their site.

    Having never setup anything so complex before I am nervous of how much work is involved in setting up the actual commercial side of it, eg. payment processing, SSL certificates etc.

    I would be very grateful if someone here could outline what I would need to look out for and factor into my cost/workload if I take on this project.

    All we can suggest is that you browse the themes in http://wordpress.org/themes/
    Any additional functionality that you need may be added via plugins.

    Thanks Esmi. I have been looking at a few eCommerce templates.

    Does anyone know if “Superstore” from woothemes (for example) Superstore is any good. it looks great and I see that the payment gateways are all there (as optional extras).
    Or are there others that you would recommend?
    Would you still recommend an SSL certificate?

    The wordpress.org support forums are for the core application, themes and plugins that are distributed on wordpress.org. We do not support or have access to themes downloaded from elsewhere.

    Or are there others that you would recommend?

    Pretty much any theme from http://wordpress.org/support/ should work with an ecommerce plugin that suits your needs.

    Would you still recommend an SSL certificate?

    That depends upon whether you will be processing card details yourself or using a merchant gateway.

    my apologies. should I be asking this in another part of the forum that talks about 3rd party themes or something maybe?

    No. The wordpress.org support forums are meant for the core application, themes and plugins that are distributed on wordpress.org. We do not support themes downloaded from elsewhere.
