    Hi there.

First and foremost, I have to say that Adminimize is quite possibly the best WordPress plugin concept that exists (fantastic work, Frank!) However, I’ve encountered some significantly frustrating issues…

On the site that I am working on, I’m making a bicycle registry system (where users can sign up to the site using the built in WordPress system, and register their bicycles in case they are stolen). To get this to work, I’ve made a new role (bicycle_registry_user), and a custom post type (bicycle_registry). I then used the plugin “Members” to grant bicycle_registry_users capabilities for the bicycle_registry post type. Next, I wanted to remove the other extraneous options from the back-end (the top admin bar, dashboard menu link, media menu link, comments menu link, tools menu link, and another plugin menu link – vslider). So, I installed Adminimize, and started removing the menu options. This was all working fine, until I tested the user registration system again. At this time, I found that I could not register new users at all. I deactivated, and deleted Adminimize, and it worked fine, so I deduced that it was probably due to a setting that I messed up, so I reinstalled the plugin, and started the process again. This time, the new user registration worked just fine, however, when I try to remove “Menu Options” from the back end, nothing happens. I can remove some stuff (like the settings from “Global Options”), but nothing happens with the “Menu Options.”

So, I hit the forums, and found some possible fixes (1.7.14 not working in 3.0.5 or 3.1 for Admin role only). I’ve tried everything that I’ve found, and everything that I can think of, but nothing works.

I should note that I’ve also been getting a message at the top of the Adminimize page in the settings menu that says…

Please note: The Adminimize settings page ignores the Menu Options below and displays the menu with all entries.
To view your changes to the menu you need to navigate away from the Adminimize settings page.

But, when I navigate away and come back, the menu options are still there.

I figured out the solution…if you remove any of the original roles as defined by the core installation (even if they are not being utilized in any way) it will break the menu option functionality of the plugin. I had deleted the “Editor”, “Author”, “Contributor”, and “Subscriber” roles, leaving only the “Administrator” and my own custom role “Bike Registry User.” By re-creating these roles that I deleted, the plugin works fine.

If you are an administartore role, then you see all menu items on the Adminimize settings page, no filter of Adminimize is active.

Its important, that you update the settings of adminimize, if you change a role capabilities or an plugin, there change the backend. The plugin save the settings new, if you save the options.

if you logged in as an other role as administrator and this role have an capability of the administrator, then it is possible, that WP check this role also as admin.
