Admin role in a network is not a true admin? (10 posts)

    Here is the setup:
    superadmin is the Super admin
site1 is the admin of site1.com (user created at the same time as the blog)

    Here are the problems:
    - HTML is filtered when site1 wants to post something. This shouldn't happen since the user is an admin for his blog. I haven't given site1 any rights on the Network (on the user page of the Super admin section).
    - Some plugins cannot be properly initialized. They complain about a lack of admin rights. These have been network activated by superadmin, but the user still needs to customize certain actions. One example is CMS Tree Page View.

Is this a bug or do we have to give all users extra network rights?

  2. Filtered HTML is a known issue, not a bug. You can use a plugin to unfilter it, but there are risks.

As for the plugin problems, sounds more like a problem with the plugins. Tell the devs about it but remember, not every plugin will work on MultiSite.

These have been network activated by superadmin, but the user still needs to customize certain actions.

Doesn't matter. If the plugin wasn't built to have global options across the network, then settings in the plugin will still have to be set on a per-blog basis.

Network activation just turns it on. It doesn't set it up for you.

    - HTML is filtered when site1 wants to post something.

And what, exactly is being filtered? A youtube video? (it's already supported) an iframe? You'll need a plugin for embedding iframes.

    Thank you for the replies.
I'll let the devs know about the problems I ran into with their plugins.

Regarding the filtered HTML, it was an <object> containing a Flash animation, but I've tried with a youtube video and I had the same problem.

Going to the site as superadmin allowed me to post it, but site1 (admin on his blog) cannot. On a non-Network blog, it seems the admin can post these elements without any problems.

Intentionally left blank. WP was having issues.

The filtered HTML is a feature.

OFr youtude, put the URL on one line, all by itself. Even admins can do this & have it embedd.

For flash objects, get a flash embed plugin.

  8. The youtube URL thing is called oEmbed - http://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds

There are plugins to add more embedables.

From reading the "Unfiltered MU" plugin's description. It seems that this restriction is a design decision, since the admins of a network are potentially strangers that could harm the network.

I'll check out the "embed" plugins to see if it could be an in-between solution.

    Thank you!

Do check out the embed plugins. They *are* the solution. ;)
