[closed] Admin Panel is a White Screen (5 posts)

I logged into my admin panel today to discover a white screen. the front end is still working fine. A little reading on the forums makes me wonder if I've been hacked, but I don't know how to determine that.

I've tried some of the remedies suggested here in the past: resetting the plugins folder, etc. No luck. Can anyone out there help me discover if it is indeed a hack, what kind of hack it is, and perhaps where to begin to go about fixing it?

    The site is http://www.spektralquartet.com

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress asap. As you have such an old version of WordPress, you will need to carry out a series of smaller manual upgrades. See Upgrading_WordPress_Extended for the full details.

    Hello

Thank you for the quick reply. I can't deactivate the plugins from the admin panel because I can't see them (white screen). I did reset the plugins folder from FTP by renaming the plugins folder. That didn't work. I don't know how to switch to the default theme, because I can't see that admin page in order to do it. I tried renaming the folder of my current theme, but that didn't make it switch to the default theme.

I am now aware that I'm in danger of being hacked. ;) I am not a web professional by any stretch. Everything I've learned is by trial and error and reading forums. So i'm probably not the best person to be trying to solve this. Would rather just pay someone who knows what they're doing... any recommendations?

Thank you again for your time

BTW -- I did run a backup using the plugin UpdraftPlus. However, I wonder if that backup will then just be corrupted by the same hack? (assuming it's a hack)

I don't know how to switch to the default theme

Try switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme's folder inside wp-content/themes and adding "-old" to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    any recommendations?
