Admin pages only half load (1 post)

The WordPress blog on our site is having problems with the admin pages not loading fully. You'll get most of the page, but (unless the page is very short, such as the login screen) the bottom part will just be missing. If you view the HTML source, the HTML literally just ends right in the middle of a line. On rare occasions, the end of the page will just spit out 30 or so lines of PHP code in plain text. This all becomes problematic when the code ends, for example, before the save button is rendered when you're trying to write a new post (which is every time--we are unable to post at all at the moment).

This has happened once before, maybe 6 months ago. Our guess was to try increasing the memory available to PHP. The server admins were wary of doing this, and it took about a month before they finally agreed to let us try it. It actually did work, but now that the problem has cropped up again, considering how much trouble we had to go through the first time, I very much doubt that the server admins will be willing to just up the memory for us every 6 months.

The only thing that has changed about our instance of WordPress is the number of posts. There are very few plugins installed, and no new ones have been added since the initial installation. There is one person who handles all the posting, and there are about 700 posts.

Is this a common problem with WordPress? It seems strange to me that the number of posts would have an effect on whether or not it could render a page fully. Does anyone know what might else be causing the problem, or something that would point me in the right direction? Besides these two problems, I've been happy with WordPress--but the downtime from this problem has really caused us a lot of issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
