Admin page not found!! (7 posts)

I am locked out of my admin area!

Not sure why, but I am unable to reach the login page. /wp-admin shows a 404 page and /wp-login.php gets caught in a redirect loop.

It might have something to do with the fact that I changed the permalink structure to Post Name, or it might be a plugin problem (Just installed Yoast SEO, which seems to have some redirect instructions), but I was unable to recreate the problem on a test site so I'm really at a loss.

Is there a way to get in and change the permalink structure back to default from the backend?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Deactivate all plugins via FTP/ cPanel by renaming the plugins folder by adding -OLD and see if you can get in.

Thanks Krishna-- I found that suggestion in a similar-looking thread and tried it earlier today (also cleared the cache to make sure). No change unfortunately.

Guessing that means it is not an issue with plugins?

You may try the following steps after reverting to the default WP theme with all plugins turned off:
    - Manually update from a fresh download of WordPress except wp-content – do not overwrite but delete wp-admin and wp-includes and replace them with fresh copies.
    - Flush caching plugins, if any, and flush server and/or browser caches
    - Run the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

Use FTP or your hosting control panel if you cannot access dashboard.
Backup your site including database so that you can restore in case anything goes wrong.

These options seem drastic but I'll give it a shot.

One question though before I do: How do I revert to the default theme without accessing dashboard?

You need to login to your hosting account and go to your File Manager (or whatever they call it) and deactivate all other themes by renaming them adding extra characters like -OLD so that your site will open using the default theme (do not rename it).
