admin login fine but admin options disappeared

I created this blog with no problems (except that every time I tried to upload a document it told me it was unsecure). Then I logged out for the first time. Since I’ve been logging back in, the site still recognizes me as admin, but my options for toying with the site are totally gone (a reduced version of Dashboard remains, plus “Profile” and “Tools” — there is no “Appearance,” no “Widgets,” no “Pages” and so on. EVERYTHING else is gone). It’s as though it’s recognizing me as a satellite admin but not *the* admin. I can’t actually change anything on the existing site. Also not sure if I actually have 2.8.1. I just put down something. Disclaimer: I’m a computer dummy — I’m assuming I have a pretty recent version.
