Manual install from 2.5 to 2.8.3 and followed the manual upgrade instructions to the letter.
Blog is working but I can not login to admin with the correct username and pasword.
Redirect error? Path Error? blog is in cgi-park/ directory
Error 404: The URL: http://www.ibo.nyc.ny.us/cgi-park/wordpress/http://www.ibo.nyc.ny.us/cgi-park/wp-login.php
The software adds the word wordpress in the URL???
http://www.ibo.nyc.ny.us/cgi-park/wp-login.php
seems to be working OK.

The error happens after you put in the username and password.
You can cause the error with out putting in the username and password also. Just hit submit. It redirects to a directory not on the server. O
Any link on the login page redirects to the wrong URL.
Any suggestions?

Try deleting the .htaccess file in your WP root folder.

I deleted the installation. I installed WordPress 2.8.3 again this time with a new database instead of upgrading. I then changed the wp-config file to connect to the old database. The old database was updated when I did the upgrade. It worked. Blog and admin working.

This still did not work.
I had to Export WordPress XML. Install new 2.8.3 with new data base and import the XML document. This was the only way it worked.
