   Hey Everyone--

   Nice to discover this forum. I have installed WP 2.8, and have been able to post a few random items, but the dashboard looks very "old school"--

   Any ideas how I can switch it to the latest version?

   Looks like you might be missing some files for the formatting of the panel. Have you tried re-uploading WP? Or at least just the wp-admin folder first to try.
