My boss's blog uses wordpress and for some reason the admin changed to author. Now no one has access to anything on the administration side. Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue??

There are various tutorials for recreating admin users through the database. Try a google search for "wordpress add administrator db" or similar. http://www.velvetblues.com/web-development-blog/how-to-add-an-admin-user-to-a-wordpress-database/ for example.I'd strongly recommend a full database backup before attempting any of these, so that you can restore if necessary.

You should also probably check if you've been hacked, as it is not normal behaviour for admin rights to vanish. http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked
