Admin Approval At Registration Needed (6 posts)

I just learned how to use WP and have set up three different blogs, one of which was a theme designed by myself. I say this not to gloat about my accomplishment, but to give credit to the authors and others who have developed WP to be a fine application, easy to learn, well documented, and able to suit many needs.

That being said, I wish that WP had within its basic features an option where an administrator of a blog could screen and approve people who want to register. Right now the only options are to let everyone or no one to register.

I spent many hours trying to find a plugin which would give me that administrative register option, but alas, many did not work; and I am left trying to figure out a way to allow people to register but screen them. Personally, I do not have the coding skills to write scripts to do this.

For such a basic feature as the above, I would gladly pay at this point.

What would be the difference between you registering users on the site and having a plugin?

The difference would be having to deal with dozens of registerees (instead of them doing the work of supplying data on themselves; not me typing it in) rather than simply approving them after a brief review of credentials.

A good plugin or an option for admin approval upon registering (built into WP proper) would simplify life, not make more work.

I appreciate your response and concern to help. However, and with all due respects, there are some red flags in his(Confirm-User-Registration) plugin page which raise some concern. Namely, there are only 3.5 stars (that is low for my standards) and when one clicks on reviews, there mysteriously are no reviews to be found.

I would relegate this plugin to the "wait and see" category. As I originally posted, I would like to see WordPress live up to its original standards of great blog creation, and I challenge it to write a "Admin Approval at Registration Option" in line with the great blog application that WordPress is. Please note: I am not being forward here, just stating a fact and offering a much needed suggestion (which you suggested I do, by this very forum). Thanks.

when one clicks on reviews, there mysteriously are no reviews to be found.

In all fairness, plugin & theme reviews are fairly recent so many haven't got a single review yet. I'd guess about 1 in 1000 users (or less) actually bother to write a review.
