Address Problems (2 posts)

    I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem, but I can't seem to find an exact match in any previous posts.

    I can access WP using my numerical ip address of my router (wan) with no problems logging in or posting.

    I have a domain name, corestandardsblog.org, fowarded to my home router. When I change the site url to corestandardsblog.org in the WP configuration screen. Then I can load my website, but with no theme, and I cannot log in.

    I have read all the tricks of how to relocate a website, etc. I even tried making a subdirectory of my wordpress site and was able to access it at corestandardsblog.org/testme.

    Basically the site is acting like it doesn't have permissions; I don't see what the difference should be between a numerical website address and a forwarded one.

    I have duplicated this problem on a Mac, and on a virtual install of Ubuntu.

    (Just checked: on Ubuntu, if I'm using my numerical address, I can't log in either. This was not the case when I installed on Mac)

    Help!

    The first thing to be suspicious of is;

    - If you initially installed WordPress using an internal private ip address, e.g. 192.168.x.x, or your current external ip address, you need to do a search and replace on the database for all instances of that address, and replace it with the domain name you intend to enter in general settings.

    - The second consideration might involve configuring your default web server host container (or virtual container if you've gone that route) to point your actual domain name and alias to your WordPress directory.
