   I would just love a third radio button in the privacy settings that turns on a default page stating "This site is Under Construction, check back soon or Bookmark this page" .

   This would allow webmasters to create and design their site absolutely "offline" with no one able to go sneaking around but administrators - or maybe a multiple choice option. (Who can see the site: Admin only, Editor, Author etc)

   Motivating Idea!
   You could ad some additional links to wordpress - eg. do automatically a search on the topic of the url on wordpress.com or add links to wordpress.org. This would create a ton of links!

   I'd like to see one step further than this, which is not to take the whole site offline, but only the parts offline which are being worked on.

   What parts?

   There may be a way, but if you're thinking 'Just the pages I'm working on' it gets trickier than, say, 'All Pages.'
