I'm using Twenty Eleven theme. Under Appearances -- Widgets, there are a very limited number of widgets. How do I upload or add (not sure of the lingo) more widgets, such as the Twitter widget, to the theme so they are available. I know more Widgets exist but don't know how to find them and make them available on my site. Thanks.

The additional Widgets are not theme specific and would be added by plugin and theme authors, so you would look for a social media or twitter plugin with widget support.
Look for well supported plugins, look at last updated, feedback and downloads.
