I've never used a static page before. Now I'm using a static home page but it doesn't show up in admin under pages. I can't figure out how to add content on my "static" home page.

What kind of static home page did you set up? Did you create a page e.g. Home from Page > Add New Panel, then publish it and set it as home page in Settings > Reading? Or, did you create a home.php file and uploaded to theme file?
If you created the first kind, then you can add whatever you want via Write Panel. If you created the second kind i.e. home.php then you need to add scripts via notepad/bbedit then uploaded to theme folder.
