• Hi there, I wonder if any kind soul can help me. I’m new to WordPress and have been pulling my hair out to find a solution to a tagging problem:

I have a worplday humour website that primarily consists of posts and these posts are basically a list of words; these are then sorted in to categories. As I have just over 2,000 list items spread throughout ~150 posts I’d like to be able to add different tags for each specific list item (class=”tag-name”) and have them be searchable via a tag cloud.

Originally I didn’t create a new post for each of the 2,000+ words/phrases (perhaps I should have, with hindisght) so now I see no way or option to add a tag-search system. For the nature of the website it would be extremely useful to have this feature.

Thanks for any help/support you can provide.

  • So if you didn’t create a post for each phase then what is the tag-search returning?

A link to the site if possible.

Hi Michael, thanks for responding to my question.

I’d like to give readers the choice to browse by subject or gather search results, via a tag cloud, that would broaden their search results for their specific interests (as quite often a new phrase is suitable for more than one category). Unless I can specifically make each list item ‘taggable’ I would have imagined I’m stuck, unless you can suggest a workaround?

You asked me what the tag-search is returning; hopefully the above has clarified that a little. As far as how to technically go about setting something like that up – I’m pretty much stuck on that one and could use some help.

I do appreciate your time, and I apologise if I’ve not explained my situation clearly enough. The site is nothing fancy and is based on a common form of wordplay (spoonerisms) http://www.toospoontosay.com/

Well if would seem you you would tag each of your 150 articles and use the tag cloud widget.

Many thanks Michael, for your time and advice. After having given it more thought I’ll stick with the sytem I have and forget about adopting a tag-based search (at least for the time being).

I do appreciate your help though.
