Ok so this may be a basic feature but I am relatively new to WP, so go easy on me. I would like to be able to add to my pages standard text such as

    site title
    tagline
    Site Address
    Email Address

I hopped you could add something like this in the Page editor:

    [WP-Site-Title]

It would be even better if I could set up my own Variables such as
MYAddress = "blah de blah" and include in the page:

    [MYAddress]

and when the page is displayed "blah de blah" would be show. Does WP have this already? Am I missing a fundamental feature. Hope someone out there can help.

    Regards,

    Johnny B

Sounds like you want to use shortcodes. Here is an excellent tutorial article on shortcodes:

Excellent - this does look like what I want.

Do you know if there are a set of standard or default Short codes available

Some plugins provide shortcodes for their operation, but there is no standard set.

Seems to me there is a call for a plugin that allows the creation of short code in the admin page and then they can be used in the web pages to insert text or html. Maybe they could be stored in a table in the database.

I will have a go this weekend to create short codes with the info in the link you gave me. Thanks for that.
