Support » Fixing WordPress » Adding picture won’t work

  • Last week I requested 2 domains from the dutch provider: http://www.mijndomein.nl. One for myself and one for my gf. Mijndomein.nl supports the following: (both are .nl domains)

    Platform: Linux 2.6, Apache 2.2, MySQL 5.0, PHP 5.2, Perl 5.8.

So, the installation of both went fine, both are working without problems, UNTIL I want to upload a picture (add picture in post)

I tested it on two computers, with both accounts (mine and gf’s), and with firefox and ie7. When I click add picture, everything works, than I browse to the picture and click upload. (also tried the HTML and flash versions) Than it immediatly skips to “crunch” and than the window for info of picture comes up.

Now there should also be a picture preview, which is not there. I can add everything I want and click insert, but than the picture is empty in the post (red cross). Also, when I click on URL and follow the URL in which the picture should be its not there (404).

What is happening? Did I configure something wrong?

  • That happens to me if I try to use the Flash uploader. If I use the browser uploader it works fine. Have you tried both?

Check the path, seems you’re describing the same problem i have:

Yes artndzne, I tried them both, on both pc’s, with both accounts and with both browsers 🙁 it sucks 🙂 now I have wordpress without pictures..

Joecool, sounds like the same problem indeed. I checked on the paths and you have correctly analysed the problem. The path is indeed in the program seen as:

    wp-content/uploads/img_2786.jpg

    while the correct is:

    wp-content/img_2786.jpg

Because the upload process was so quick, I thought that it did not upload at all, but the referal is just wront, you are right, I checked and the picture is uploaded.. Well if more people have this problem, there should be a fix?

I have the same problem: there’s no crunching done, but the bigger image uploads fine in both the flash and browser interface.
    Does anybody have a solution?

I have a similar problem. I just switched from 1&1 to Hostgator and now I can’t upload pictures at all, getting this message:

Unable to create directory /homepages/18/d251748374/htdocs/wp-content/uploads/2009/05. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

In addition, none of the widgets in my sidebar show up on any other computer but my own. I called Hostgator’s tech support, but the tech I spoke to said he could see the widgets. i looked on my wife’s laptop however, and no widgets still, even after clearing the cache (on the computer) several times.

    Any suggestions?

Did you read . . . and implement suggestions in this sticky from the top of the page http://wordpress.org/support/topic/164999?replies=1?

Yes. Finally got some help from Jeff Houdyschell of http://www.wordpressmax.com. He found it was an issue of the setting (Settings, Miscellaneous) it was not set the normal wp-content/uploads.

    Thanks for helping.
