Greetings All,
I know the answer to my question lies within the support pages, however, I am finding it difficult to get the info I need. Is there any place on the site where the process of uploading photos is posted, along with any software needed, etc?

Just simple upload? Did you try the WP admin panel?
Options > Miscellaneous > Allow file uploads checked...
Then you'll have a new tab in your admin menu: Upload.

I did all the above and now I get an error message
It doesn't look like you can use the file upload feature at this time because the directory you have specified (/home/andreas/public_html/JTCS/wp-content) doesn't appear to be writable by WordPress. Check the permissions on the directory and for typos.
So I'll check the site for this and repost if necessary.

The directory should be writable, probably 666 or something like that.
Wouldn't it be 777
Directories have to be 777 for upload to work in my experience.
Andreas, if you're specifically wanting to upload photos, you might want to consider the PhotoPress Plugin, which makes it easy to upload while you're writing a post and also creates a simple photo album:

Greetings All,
I've installed the wordpress photo plugin, varied the permissions, tried various changes to line 36 ( mentioned in the above error message), but I still can't get the photo to show.

you'll see it all in context.
At one stage I had an edit button showing, and I was able to get rid of that by changing the permissions with the help of another support page.
But now I'm totally stumped. And Jaffa wants to post again.
Anymore suggestions? Helpppppp!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but:
The webserver user_id (apache, httpd or nobody, depending on the environment) needs to have write permissions, which is represented by "7", so it really depends on the way your ISP has things running and using "777" is probably not only unnecessary but probably insecure because it effectively allows everyone (any user on that server) permissions to create, write and delete files in that directory.
Are you sure you want that? It would be better to find out from your ISP what the "chmod mask" should be to allow full access to whatever user_id you use to update content as well as the webserver user_id.

I tried 777 for chmod and found an edit button on the blog. So I re-did the chmod settings and got rid of that problem. I do agree that giving everybody access to the directories is not a good idea. Thanks for the tip about the chmod mask. I'll check with my web host.

I have trouble uploading pics to the site from the upload page too. I can't use the files when I put them in. My solution was to go to http://www.photobucket.com you upload your pictures, it gives you 3 lines of text. You copy the second block of text and paste it into your post. Works every time. Just be sure your photos are the right size or they will spread all over your sidebar. I usually set mine at 475 mega pixels horizontal and the vertical sizes automatically in my photo program.
