Adding Meta Keywords to Category Pages (4 posts)

    I am looking for a way to add meta keywords for SEO purposes to my category pages (archive pages). I have tried a few plugins, but while they do create fields on my category admin screen where I can add meta keywords, the text I enter never appears on the front end of my website (when I view source, the meta keywords don't show up in the code).

    Has anyone been able to accomplish this task successfully, either with a plugin or otherwise? I am running WordPress 3.0.3 with Arras theme 1.5.0.1. My site is still in development, but you can see it here:

    Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am moving my site from static HTML to WordPress and I want to make sure I can keep all my meta data to not lose ranking in Google. Thanks!

    Regards,
    Danielle Mead

    Add something like this to your header.php

    <?php if(is_category('6')) { // cat. ID 6 ?>
    <meta name="description" content="..." />
    <meta name="keywords" content="..." />
    <?php } elseif(is_category('8')) { // cat. ID 8 ?>
    <meta name="description" content="..." />
    <meta name="keywords" content="..." />
    <?php } elseif(is_category()) { // generic (any other category) ?>
    <meta name="description" content="..." />
    <meta name="keywords" content="..." />
    <?php } else { // is not a category listing ?>
    <meta name="description" content="..." />
    <meta name="keywords" content="..." />
    <?php } ?>

    Hi Danielle, I would recommend you to use the plugin "Platinum SEO", allows you to easily add keywords, description, title, etc to your articles / pages within your dashboard. and its free.

    EDIT: otherwise you could also edit your header.php as caugb suggested.
