Hello,
Very basic question from a newbie: I just today submitted by blog to Technorati and Blogarama. These sites, however, ask that you insert a link back to them on your blog in the form of a button or text link. They provide the code, but don't specify where to put it. They just say "place it somewhere" in your blog. I have no idea where i can paste this code. Can someone tell me what area within wordpress.org is ideal to insert this code?

Try adding them to your Blogroll/Links.
