Google Calendar Events
[resolved] Adding link to full calendar at bottom of widget? (8 posts)

Hi and thanks for the great plugin. I am using it in a widget to display the next 5 upcoming events for our school. As there are always more than 5 events in the future, I would like to be able to display a link at the bottom of the widget letting the user go to the site page containing the full calendar. I don't want them to jump out to the Google page. Is there a way to add a "more" link at the end of the widget text?

Or, second choice, is there a way to make the widget title a link? I tried and got the literal html as the title.

You can see my page (with widget) here: http://www.webcraftconnect.com/public_html/hilltoptest2/

And the page with the full calendar (using a different wp plugin) is:
    http://www.webcraftconnect.com/public_html/hilltoptest2/school-calendar/

    Thanks!
    Cindy

    Hi Cindy,

You can do this using a little functionality plugin I made, which you can find here.

You'll need to copy / paste the code into Notepad (or similar), replacing the following section (on line 9) with your link:

    '<a href="http://your-url-here">LINK TEXT</a>'

Then, save the file as gce-add-text-to-widget.php, upload it to your wp-content/plugins folder, then activate the plugin in your WordPress admin.

Thanks Ross - that worked perfectly.

Hi - I get a fatal error when trying to activate the plugin...

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in (...)/wp-content/plugins/gce-add-text-to-widget.php on line 6

My host is running php 5.2.17, so I understand it won't support certain functions. Is there a way I can rewrite the plugin so it will work on my server?

    Thanks...

    Hello,

The code should work fine with PHP 5.2. It might be worth double-checking that all the code copy / pasted correctly.

I went back and copied and pasted the "raw" code... It's now working perfectly. Thanks!!

Hi, thanks for the plugin. I followed the steps above and no errors, but for some reason it's not showing up in my plugins, and I'm not exactly sure how to make it active? Any tips. Thanks!

I ended up installing it with the installer using a zipped folder and that worked. Great addition - thanks!
