  • Hi my website is http://www.sellhousefastbath.co.uk and i want to track the performance of this site. I tried downloading the plugin “Google analytics for wordpress” but it is not getting installed. When i searched the internet for other standard installations of adding the Track code to the wordpress site, i came across a comment stating that we can add the tracking code in the footer.php. but it is still not working. Can anyone tell me how to add the tracking code to the site directly.

  • Where in footer.php did you place the code? Make sure you place the code before the end of the </body> tag. That is the “direct” method.

You can also try the plugin Google Analyticator rather than Google Analytics for WordPress. Once installed, within WordPress go to Settings -> Google Analytics

    Cheers!

    Hi Caitlyn

Thanks for the reply. And how to check the analytics? Should i log in to my google account and check it like how i used to do for other sites?

    Hi,
You can try using the plugin ultimate google analytics which is highly recommended.
Another option is installing Yoast all in one seo plugin which also has a place to place your analytics code.
I agree also with chathrinetina that you can add it directly in the footer.php file.
I did so in my site http://paypal-bingo.co.uk and I recommend doing so in a site / blog that has already enough plugins installed.

    Cheers

To check your analytics, it’s best to just login to your google analytics account.

Where do you actually put the Google Tracking code in the settings page for the WP Analytics plugin

I’ve put it where I think it should be installed but when I do this and save the changes it has still not been installed when I go back to Google Analytics!!
    Help

    1. I am trying to add Google Analytics to my blog.
    2. I followed the info on this page http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-install-google-analytics-in-wordpress/
    3. I got the code at step 6 to paste into my blog
    4. Next Instruction – “Direct Paste Method – Copy the code that you received in Step 6, and paste it in your theme’s footer.php right above the </body> tag.”
    5. I have no idea where to find the theme’s footer. Php .
    6. I checked WordPress Forum and found this thread http://wordpress.org/support/topic/where-is-the-footerphp-file
    7. I went into “Appearance > Editor> and near the top I found the name of my theme –
    8. The page is headed “ultima: Stylesheet (style.css)” and contains loads of HTML code.
    9. I am totally stuck now.
    Thanks
I found more Forum Advice –
“Usually people put Analytics tracking code into the footer.php file. I believe Google wants it right before the </body> tag.
Alternatively, there’s this rather popular plugin to do it automatically.”
I downloaded the plug- in (so it is my documents on pc) but I don’t know how to get it onto wordpress/open to follow instructions.

Guys, please create your own threads to discuss your own issues.

If playing with code isn’t your thing, there are plugins that can place the Adsense code for you. You could try Google Analtyics WP plugin.
