adding a theme to WP 2 (7 posts)

    Hi,

I just installed WP 2 and am trying to change the theme. It says that " you generally just need to upload the theme folder into your wp-content/themes directory" . However, I can't find this directory? Or a folder in WP called WP - content? Is this becasue i'm using WP 2 instead of 1.5?

I'm not a computer programmer, but a writer, so am not very technically informed. I asked my 15-year old son who's taking Basic in High school and he couldn't find the folder to put it in either. Sorry if I'm asking too basic a quesiton here, I did read the forum instrucitons and also did a search under adding a theme.

    Thanks for any help,

    sibylle

root dir/(folder that holds your blog)/wp-content/themes

    Hope this helps :)

    Hi,

The folder I downloaded and unzipped is called WordPress - 2.0. I searched my computer for folders with "content/ themes and found none. In the wordpress - 2.0 folder are documents and folders called:
    wp-blog-header.php
    wp-login.php
    wp-pass.php
    wp-rss.php
    and finally:
    wp-includes

The folder wp-includes has other documents and folders - cache, locale, gettext, class-snoopy, wp-db, images, but no folder called content/themes. I thought perhaps the folders changed from WP 1.5 to WP 2.0? So maybe I need to use a folder with a different name?

My blog is not yet online. I bought a domain name: it will be called Fun Climbs Around the World. I downloaded and installed word Press 2 days ago and am trying to get it to work, write content, and add photographs before I publish (is that the correct term)? I wrote a book, Fun Climbs in Colorado, a rock climbing vacation guide and want to extend the guide to other countries on my blog, but have never done a blog yet!

If you have only that much files... there is something wrong with your download.
There should be a lot of files and 3 folders:
    wp-admin
    wp-content
    wp-includes

Ah - thankyou! That explains it! I have wp-inculdes, but not wp-content nor admin.

I'll try downloading again. Is there something I did wrong in the original download, or is this jsut one of those glitches?

    thaks again!

    HI,

It worked. I put the new themes in the correct folder and they appear when I click "View site". Like Magic!

    Thanks!
