   I would like to add a simple news feed that posts to my main pages blog. I would like for this feed to post new news once daily. Is this possible.

   Yes - use the RSS Widget in Appearance -> Widgets.

   You would need to create a widget-ready area within your theme's index.php template file to house the RSS widget.

   See the link I gave above. The approach is exactly the same whether you are widgetizing a sidebar or your main posts template (index.php).
