• i am interested in purchasing a theme and was wondering if there is a possibility to extend the theme with something else. All i want to do is add a map where people can mark a desired place, add a photo and some infos. The infos should be added with pre-set options determined by me that they can simply fill out (checked boxes or dropdown menu). Would this be possible?

Thank you most sincerely for your time.

  • Start with Buddypress, then try:

    BP-User-Profile-Map

    planet-eye-maps
(don’t need Buddypress for that one)

    Also:
    easyalbums

You can use Buddypress to create custom profile feilds for your users. Then the BP map will appear on their profile pages with the info for those feilds.
And/or you can learn how to make custom post feilds that you’re users can fill out, but I think they have to add the Planet Eye maps from the admin post editor.
Many ways to go at this, have fun!

Here’s another one – simple, easy, nice

oh btw, the BP-User-Profile-Map link doesn work. i have googled it and couldnt find it. is that possible?

it appears the site is down, do a plugin search through wordpress.
I have it working on an older version of a site project I’m doing. here’s the
    link
you’ll need to login, use tester3 as user and password, then go to your profile/edit profilie/profile group=”map”
from there you can add your map.
i haven’t used the site in nearly a year, but I tried it and it appears to be working.

I also noticed the plugin hasn’t been updated in a year. when you do your search play with the terms and look for other plugins that may be like it.

i am not sure i understand how this works. i did as you said but you can only change the map, not add a new one.

that’s correct, one per user. It lets you add one to your profile. with a location you specify. Do you need more? i went to the site and saw you added a map and added Kula, so maybe I’m not understanding what you want to do.

If you want each user to be able to make multiple maps a profile map won’t do. You need something that works in posts, then you need a way for users to make posts and add a map to it. Easy if done in admin, harder from the front end.

It’s been a year since I’ve pursued this, maybe there’s a plugin available that will accomplish your goal, it’s likely to be written for buddypress if there is. That’s why I suggested that theme.

    Good luck to you.

    heres what i want:

people to log in, add pictures to places on the map and infos. for them to have their own profile would also be great.

What you want is not likely to come “ready to go”, but if you start with buddypress and spend time searching for and experimenting with plugins you’re likely to find something very close to what you want to do. At one time I found at least 10 plugins for user maps, most were for buddypress. You’ll just have to dig around and get started with something. It may be a lot of work, or might be much easier than you thought.

did you try stacytayor’s suggestion above?
