• I search high and low in the documentation and the forums for this, but didn’t see anything addressing the issue. My apologies if it is a double post.

I created a new blog using WP 2.1.2 yesterday. It is to be a team blog, so I added a user at the editor level.

I gave them a user name, password, and editor status. They can’t log in!

    What did I do wrong?

  • They should use the built in register form to register, and then you can up their access levels.

I’ll post the conversation from today so you can see the error

They’ve done that. I can see them in users, I can make them a higher rank, but they can’t get in to contribute to the blog.

    “Pippa
    11:07
Sent me my password, but doesn’t change the screen.
Just dumps me back to the login

and then wont let you log in?

    Pippa
    11:08
Just sends me right back to a blank log-in screen

I got that – then if you try logging in again you get the login screen again?

    Pippa

    Yep

    Leslie

    hmmm”

    that’s what is happening….

You’re using a version which I don’t myself, but I think there were various posts in the last couple of weeks about this sort of problem. Did you try a search for 2.1 login loop or some such?

No – I will look for login loop, as we are still having the issue.

Nothing helpful in the login issue forums.

I know this won’t “fix” the method of “adding users” to a blog. But, like mrkryptic said above, have them manually join the blog.
    domain.com/path-to-blog/wp-register.php

Then under users section, edit them individually.

In the drop down thing, give them each the status you want them to have. Click Update button…?

Have them try the login here of course:
    domain.com/path-to-blog/wp-admin/

Will this maybe work, or help? I never used the “add users” function before. I just had my authors join via the domain.com/path-to-blog/wp-register.php route, then gave them their statuses.

It’s working for me in WP 2.2-bleeding even…so.. Hopefully sometime soon, the devs/coders can maybe look into this farther and such.. [cross fingers though]..

/You also might want to delete those that you’ve added already though, just incase one tries joining with same username you had already manually added them with.. Just let them join and such.

We’ve tried that method. It still is sending the user into the loop. I’m wondering if there is a way to find the loop in one of the three user files in the wp-admin folder? php, js, etc. I don’t know enough about scripting or php to try this myself though.
