added home.php now site & admin messed up

    Hi,

    I’m trying to get a static site along with a blog to link to. I *finally* got my template working after 3 days except I could not see my page content on the page.

    I then found the instructions for adding home.php to the site and followed them. Immediately after adding home.php the page I had no longer is my template (it’s a mess!) and pretty much wherever I click in the admin section I get a 404 error page instead. I deleted home.php and changed my site settings back to what I had originally which was just the site URL but that didn’t cure the problem. The only page I can see in the admin is when I go to Manage –> Posts and I don’t even have posts! I can no longer even go to Settings.

    I’m afraid if I log out, I won’t be able to get back in! Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    Just thought I’d add that yes, I *now* know I should *not* have used the home.php instructions as I’m using version 2.5. I also forgot to mention the version in my post. So, now I just need to please know how to fix this. If you feel the need to voice an opinion on my stupidity, go right ahead, but you can bet you won’t be able to beat me up as hard as I am beating myself up right now.

    Hi Deb.

    I hate to be that guy, but let me try stating the obvious just in case it isn’t 😉

    Given that this is a fresh installation with no posts as you say – why not try just deleting everything (including the contents of the database) and starting over?

    It is the ‘famous 5 minute install’ after all, right?

    I was just coming here to post. There seems to be an easier way to fix this as it seems I have. I deleted all my template files, re-uploaded fresh ones and re-chmod the new ones and all seems well so far.

    Yeah, it’s obvious and I said you could say so <g>. I deserve it.
