When I'm editing my home page, i only see the option to either ad a static page, or show the latest posts. I would like to have the page show a bit of static text at the top (~200 words), then show the latest posts.
Any help would be appreciated!

You will need to create a template for a static page and use two loops. The first loop would get the content of the static page and the second would get the latest posts.

You could use a slider on the page to display excerpts of the latest posts. The one I use is "Recent Posts Slider".
