You will need to edit the index.php file within your current theme to add a title to your front page if you have chosen to display your latest posts on this page via Admin/Setting/Reading.

I have chosen to display a static page on the front page. Can I still edit the index.php to show a page title for the front page? I’m not sure where to do this.

I installed the ” All in One SEO plugin” and all page titles are showing correctly, including the static page.

No. You need to look at the page.php file in your template. This file governs the display of all pages on your site – with the exception of any pages that have been assigned their own template.
