Subscribe To Comments Reloaded
"Add new subscriptions" for all posts (19 posts)

I searched the documentation but I could not fine anywhere.

Is it possible to subscribe an email address to receive a notification from comments on *any* posts?

Right now I would have to go to Manage Subscriptions > Add New Subscription and add each email for each post id.

It would be very nice to be able to do that for all existing posts, but even better, for all existing and future posts.

An alternative would be to be able to subscribe an address to all comments related to posts of a given category (like subscribe2 does, but for posts only).

I guess that would even be better, since it would offer more flexibility.

Interesting idea! Subscribe to all posts... I hadn't thought about that. I added this feature to my todo list. Even subscribing to a given category is not a bad idea :)

PS: a vote for my plugin would be really encouraging!

    Hello,

I am sure I would not be the only one to be very grateful for that feature. The subscription by category could be extended to "all categories", thus making it a "subscribe to all post", but keeping that feature very flexible.

Subscribe2's code could perhaps give some ideas in some way?

Thank you so much for the wonderful plugin.

PS: I did vote 5 stars a few months ago. It deserves them! For some reason I was able to do it again a few days ago (I guess one can do it for every new release?)

@forumcivico, don't forget that my plugin and Subscribe2 do two completely different things :) I must admit I was a little skeptic at first, since this feature goes a little beyond the purpose of my plugin, but I guess it would be useful in some cases, so... why not :)

Thank you for your vote, really appreciated!

Thank you so much for considering this.

Let me give at least three user cases where this behaviour would be very useful:

#1 If one would use WP as a simplified ticketing system (very easily done with Postie, for example), it would be good for different members to be able to subscribe to any comment related to different projects (using their categories).

#2 In a multi-author WP install, sometimes it is very useful for authors to keep track of just comments posted to theirs (or some colleagues) posts, but not others. Again, that could be easily done with categories.

#3 As a reader of a blog, one would want to be notified of any comment related only to a category of interest.

Thank you once again for the must-have plugin. Can't wait for the new feature! (But no pressure on my side :)

    Yes, good points.

This will be implemented in a different way. Version 2.0.2 will have an option to automatically subscribe authors to their own posts :)

The tricky part is how to implement all this without making the interface overly complicated for those who want to just subscribe to a single post :)

Wonderful idea, to automatically subscribe authors to their own posts!

May I suggest the additional feature, then, to be able to specify the post's author name and email address automatically as Notification > "Sender Name" and "Sender Email address"?

It would be good to have it just optional, though, not all workflows might demand it.

Another useful addition would be to have an additional cc and bcc field, also separately configurable.

Thank you once again for the very nice work.

Having multiple senders would be confusing for those receiving your notifications, IMHO. Plus it would be confusing for most of those used to the old Subscribe to Comments, which doesn't have such feature.

As for the CC or BCC, that's something I can add. I'll add it to my todo list!

First, let me apologise for the multiple posts here. If there is a place where one can submit tickets or proposals, please let me know. I would be happy to clean up this thread and summarise it there.

You are right, it would be confusing to many to have multiple senders.

Would it be possible then to also add a "Reply-to" field?

In that way, the messages would be sent from an official address, but, if the end user decides to reply by email (many actually do that!), then the reply would go to a different email address. That can be quite useful if the site administrator is different from the comment moderator.

    Many thanks for your patience!

Thank you for the "Subscribe authors" option added in 2.0.2!

I am guessing the "Subscribe to categories" option, as discussed in this thread, will come in 2.0.3?

    Thank you again!

Yes, version 2.0.3 will include that new feature. I am hoping to have it ready by the end of this month. Let's see how that goes :)

    Dear Camu,

The new "subscribe author" feature works very well.

Forgive me to be so greedy, but it would be nice to be able to add the option "notify based on tags", beside the planned "notify based on categories".

That would make this plugin the best notification system on wordpress. (which already is, in any case :)

I know it would help tremendously our workflow in some of our sites.

Perhaps you will be able to consider this for some future milestone?

Thank you again, so much, for all your work.

Hello! I'd like to add my vote for the ability to auto-subscribe users to comments on all posts within a specific category. That would be so helpful!

I am throwing my hand up as a vote for "auto subscribe all users/all comments" (or within categories).

This great plugin has gotten me SOOoooooo close to what I'm trying to achieve, but I'm still not quite there. Actually, if you don't mind, I'll explain here what I'm trying to do in case you or someone else here can point me in a more appropriate direction (I've been known to bark up the wrong tree at times...)

I'm trying to set up a site for a community watch program. The idea is that the site is private, but any "members" can post to it via email, and all other members will receive an email notification of the new post. I would like any comments made to also be blasted to the whole group automatically, but allow people to unsubscribe if they so choose.

I have the "post by email" and "notify all members of new posts by email" set up fine. It's the comment notification for everyone that's giving me trouble.

I had it working with "Post Notification" plugin, but for some reason it stopped working and I can't figure out why. I like what I see here so far very much (5 stars from me!), but it's still not quite doing what I need.

Any input or ideas are greatly appreciated!
