What theme are you using? Have you tried deactivating ALL plugins and switching to the twentytwelve theme?

I am using RESPONSIVE which is what was used in the video I'm watching. the video is about 1year old. Can I get a video that treats many things about building website with WP?

The only plug in I have activated is Contact Me. I have experienced the problem before installing it.

You'd have to look for those - there are some here:

    Also see:

Try turning off that plugin and activating the twentytwelve theme.

Also for the tool bar, click on the second to last icon on the toolbar - it should open the second toolbar.

Solved. Thank you very much. I guess the theme is the prob. Does this means I can't change to another theme if I don't like this one?

Hmm, that theme "should" work, but you can try reinstalling it. Keep your site on twentytwelve and delete the responsive theme. Then reinstall a new copy of it.

You can also get help with Responsive-specific questions here:

    ok. Thank you very much

  8. @Imshow : Like WPyogi said, the theme should and certainly does work with WordPress 3.6. I have a dev demo of the theme running with the official Theme Unit Test data here.

Have you tried using a different web browser?

It is not a browser problem as the problem occured when I used both chrome and safari (iPad).

I tried Responsive back after the problem was solved and it is working well.

    Thanks

Perhaps try to see what JS errors are there, see the response here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/36-upgrade-broken-visual-editor?replies=10#post-4491433
