Add new custom field with button (5 posts)

    Hello,

I've searched some but I haven't found anything about this specific thing, maybe I'm just a bad searcher.

Anyways. I've got this site where I wish to be able to add custom fields in the post/page edit screen. I'm aware of how you add your own custom fields, and I'm aware of the default "add custom field" with a button.

What I want is to have my own custom field, and be able to press a button to add a new one.

    Example:
Let's say I want to add 5 people using custom fields.
I want to add their name, age and description.

Right now, my only choice is to actually make 5 different boxes with the 3 custom fields, which is not the best since there will not always be 5 people. Could be more or less people.

Or I'd have to use the default "add custom field" with the button, which works almost how I want it to work. But now I'd have to enter the name of the custom field every time.

I'd be much easier to have a box, with name, age and description. Then a "Add new" button that creates a new box, for a new person.

I'm hoping someone out there might have an idea. :)

The following plugin will do what you want.. (i think)
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/more-fields/

The fields created are persistent, eg. they'll be onscreen ready to accept data, rather then there being a need to create each one, one at a time..

    Hope that helps... :)

    Thank you for the response.
Yes, I've looked into more fields, but unfortunately it's not really what I'm looking for.

The thing I'm looking for is an option to choose "duplicate this box and fields", like a "add new" button on the edit page. So if I set up some fields for a person, I can choose to add a new person (get new/more fields).

More fields doesn't have this, you have to go into settings and choose create new and enter values and names etc all over again.

Sorry if I can't explain it well. :p

Yeah i think i know what you're saying, and i don't think there's a plugin that currently exists to do that.

I'm not really sure custom field data is suited to what you're doing, but all the same i can't think of something more suitable, other than perhaps a custom post type(taxonomies wouldn't provide enough fields). Then again, i'm not sure how you'd relate one post type to another, let alone provide some connection between the two in the editor..

It's certainly a tough one.. i'll be curious to know what you come up with... (and sorry i couldn't be more helpful).
