Add more fields to a post (4 posts)

    Hi everyone,

I am currently setting up my first blog with WP 1.5 and would like to have more fields in one post than just title and contents. To be exact, I'd like to add a lead on top of the headline as well as a keyword, plus I'd like to add a photo url and a caption to every post i make.

So far in my WP 1.5 there are only two fields for title and contents. I understand the function "Custom Fields" but i want those extra fields on EVERY post i make. So: How do I add more fields?

    Thank you for your help,
    Jay

If you click the advanced editing button, you'll get a new field: excerpt. You could use that for your "lead".

To add more fields, you'd either have to alter the WP database and hack the code (I wouldn't do it), or use <a href="http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Custom_Fields
    >Custom Fields</s>.

The Custom Fields method will work. The problem, then, is figuring out a good way to change the form used on the post editing screen to make often used custom fields easier to enter.

You might check out the plugins on http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Meta to see if any of them can do what you want (or if they could be hacked into doing what you want).

Wow - that's just about the worst link ever.

I wrote a tutorial on adding custom inputs, located at http://www.bluewebpages.com/blog/2005/05/customfields. It is a bit more in-depth than having the existing custom fields remain fixed, but I was unable to accomplish the later task.
