• I’m a new user, and have had the Add Media problem since the beginning with wordpress, which for me has been two weeks. I have looked through all/most of the posts I can find and have tried every suggestion that I understood (even editing php). I have completed all the steps listed on:
[closed] Troubleshooting WordPress 3.5 Master List (4 posts)

    as well as digging deeper, even adding: define(‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’, false ); in my wp-config.php file just before require_once(ABSPATH . ‘wp-settings.php’);

All to no avail. My frustration level is high as this was ‘supposed to be easy’ and I see the potential, but can’t reach the shelf.

I use Bluehost as my site host.
I don’t have any plugins activated or themes installed (except those with core wordpress install).
I use chrome to view and edit and cyberduck to ftp.

ANY form of help would be great. I just want to have my images show, and eventually have a gallery.
    Thanks

  • I hope you can login to your admin area. If yes, just try updating/ reinstalling WordPress (though it’s up-to-date) and see if it helps:

    Thanks Krishna.

I’ve completed the reinstall, and tried adding a new post (test photo post) and it’s still not working.

Would it be worth trying the beta 3.6 to see if that resolves my problem?

    Thanks in advance
    Ty

Post the code below where you have the flickr test photo and see if it works:
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nexus2006/5520745054/" title="Yellow hybrid rose flower by Public Domain Photos Blog, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5134/5520745054_72f6eba2dd.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Yellow hybrid rose flower"></a>

Well, it is better NOT to update to the beta version at this stage. Just try the above and report back.

    Thanks again Krishna.

Code has been added (I just put it in the editing box like everything else right?) and as you can see, it just echoes what was placed there instead of converting to a link.

Thanks for advice on playing with beta, you’re right, it’s best not to experiment when it doesn’t work in the first place!!

    Ty

What editor did you use – visual or text? It will work (any HTML) only if you use text editor.

    (@tymcclelland)

I originally pasted the code in the text editor and clicked Update on the Publish widget.

I think as you might have installed WordPress using the installer provided by your host, there can be incomplete core files that are causing the problem. This can be overcome if you reinstall WordPress after deleting your current installation or manually installing WordPress.

    (@tymcclelland)

I did use the host installer, but I’ve also FTP’d up the directories listed as stated at the beginning of my post. Since I don’t have to much invested yet, I’ll give your suggestion a shot and see how it goes.

Thanks and I’ll get back to you.

    Krishna,
The latest page works for external links, albeit incompletely. The add media button still doesn’t work.

So the problem now is, I have to load everything to flickr? I don’t mean to be picky, but the workflow is compounded now. I don’t want to have to continuously refer off site for images when I’m trying to keep people on my site as much as possible.

Thanks for the help so far!!

So the problem now is, I have to load everything to flickr?

No. It was just a test. We shall sort out the problem soon.
As you have done some of the troubleshooting steps, can just see if you can upload images with any other theme? Also, try to use some other browser.

    Thread Starter tymcclelland

    (@tymcclelland)

    Krishna,
    Using Chrome-
    I switched to 2011 theme.
    Added new post.
    Added new page.
Tried to add image to ‘home’ page at the bottom.

Only one photo loaded, from flicker, in html code.

I continue to get the window when I click add media, and I can select an image, after that, nothing happens. This is from the beginning.

I switched to safari browser and got different results. The code was inserted from Add Media button!! As well as the other results.

So…this is the first time I’ve used safari (google guy) and I assume it has its core settings. I did check Chrome t ensure java was activated and it is fully on, even before all of this exploration.

    What do you think?

PS – not to get ahead of myself, should I add the code line as I said in the beginning of my post? I have not done that yet.

should I add the code line as I said in the beginning of my post? I have not done that yet.

OK, try that too and let us see if it helps.

    Krishna,
Sorry for my absence, lots of work to do.

I’ve added the additional line of code to the wp-config and there’s no visible change. Should I start and entire post/page from scratch and see if we are good to go now?

    Thanks for all your help.

Try updating WordPress from your dashboard (no matter it says you run the latest version). Perhaps it will help.

    Krishna,
It seems to be working, I didn’t update through the dashboard, when you sent that I was playing with Add Media as last post shows.

    http://tymcclellandphotography.com/2013/07/27/so-another-test-with-safari/

Working only in Safari, but I can deal with that for now.

Should I try a different theme now? Do I assume I’m ok?
