Add Media not working (11 posts)

I can upload to the Media Library but when I bring up a post or page, I can not add media through the add media page - nothing appears on that add media panel. If I use the 'upload files' tab, it appears as if to upload and then comes back with an error and nothing appears - but when you then check in the library, the media has been uploaded and supposedly is inserted in the post/page. But it is not actually there.

I suspect that I have a corrupted file somewhere, but don't know where to look. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Compat issue with theme or plugin...to test, temporarily switch to default unedited theme and deactivate all plugins...

Hi Seacoast, I just did as you suggested and nope, still not working. I had that suspicion because I have used the same theme and same plugins on another site and all worked ok there.

  4. BatsBee,

The first thing I do when someone reports this issue is go straight to their site and hit wp-login.php. I view the source and check for any linked javascript files. By default In wp-login.php there are no links to any javascript. If there are then the theme and or plugin author is using the wp_print_scripts hook to add the js instead of the correct wp_enqueue_scripts or wp_admin_enqueue_scripts hooks.

The problem with using this hook is that it fires on every page front and back. In the case of the site linked to your profile which I assume is the site in question here I see 5 external files which should not be there.

The plugins doing this are simple modal contact form and wp-photo-album plus.
One or more of the javascript files used by those plugins and loaded on the edit post page are causing a conflict with the wp.media.modal scripts.

Hi Seacoast, I just did as you suggested and nope, still not working. I had that suspicion because I have used the same theme and same plugins on another site and all worked ok there.

Please repeat the steps necessary to fix your issue. If you had followed Seacost's advice you would have seen that 1 of the plugins I mentioned was the cause.

Please disable or delete ALL plugins and switch to the default theme (TwentyEleven since 3.3). After making these changes does the problem still occur? If no, re-enable everything one by one to see which component causes the problem.

Ok, thanks for that. You were certainly looking at the right site. I will do as you say right now! Will let you know what happens. Thanks very much for taking the time to check this out.

Well... I turned off the two plugins you mentioned with no change, but I didn't go much further. The thing is - I really like the theme and also I am using the WP Photo Album Plus for the photos (very important because it is a photo gallery). So I may have to live with the media problem. I can put images into a page/post by pasting the link, and pages and posts are not going to be a major part of this, so I might just stick with that more primitive approach. I was just thinking that if it was a corrupted file, I could fix that easily, but if it's a more deep-seated conflict, then I might just leave it as is.
Many thanks for your advice. If it really gives me the ....s then I might look at a new approach at some stage, but for now, it's more than I can do!

Same problem to my blog. It started when I upgraded my WP version to 3.5 I am a no techie, so trying all those fixes I got from forums such as this didn't help. What I did? I upgraded my WP once again, this time to 3.5.1 version. And it worked for my site!

Narrowed my troublesome plugin to "Local Search SEO Contact Page" I deactivated that and the Insert Media button started inserting images and galleries. I guess it could be any plugin causing problems in past or future.

    Yes, that's standard troubleshooting.

@harwichanddovercourt - if you still need help, please start a new thread - this one is 8 months old and references WP3.5.1.
