When trying to edit a Page, neither the Add Media nor the Text button do anything. The Text button (to swap to HTML) goes red when I hover my cursor over it, but nothing happens when I click on it.

Many other people have reported this, or similar, problems; but I can’t see any reported fix. Is anyone working on it ? Is there a separate WordPress log of known bugs somewhere, so we can stop reporting the same problem ?

I’m having exactly the same problem. I can’t add Media and the Text button turns red when I hover my cursor over it and it doesn’t do anything when I click on it.I hope this can be resolved soon.

The standard troubleshooting steps (mentioned in many threads) are:
Clear your browser and any server caches

    Deactivate ALL plugins

Clear any caches and cookies again.

Reset plugins folder (using FTP change the name on the plugins folder to something else temporarily)

Clear any caches and cookies again.

    Switch to the default theme

Clear any caches and cookies again.

If the problem is solved, reverse the above one by one to see what’s causing the problem.

And yes, there is a masterlist of troubleshooting and known issues:

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I’m unfamiliar with some of the terminology. Is there a step-by-step guide to the recommended troubleshooting steps ? In particular:

    1. Does the first part mean ‘Clear your browser.’ (how ?), or ‘Clear your browser cache.’ (again, how ?) ?

    2. What are server caches, and how can I tell if I have any ?

    3. Line 3: ‘Clear … cookies again.’ Why again ? Should ‘Clear cookies’ be added to line 1 ?

    4. Does this mean ALL my browser cookies, or is it WordPress-specific ?

    5. How do I reset plugins folder ? I’ve never used FTP with WordPress.

Incidentally, my workaround for the Attachment problem is to type in the Media item’s directly, e.g. <webaddress>/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/<filename>. Inelegant, but it works.

Alternatively, editing my Profile to disable the Visual Editor enabled me to type in HTML, i.e. it overrides the failure of the Text button.

In passing: as another workaround, I tried ‘Paste from Word’, but this doesn’t really work (formatting lost; blank lines inserted everywhere). It might help some people where the Media item is just a short piece of text.

Another disappointment (probably should be a new thread): Alt-Shift-G (toggle full screen mode) doesn’t work. This would make editing easier.

Another possible problem: Alt-Shift-W (Distraction-Free Writing Mode) might be a replacement for Alt-Shift-G … but it doesn’t seem to do anything either.

Apologies for going on so long, but any help would be gratefully received.

I have the same problems. I can’t edit posts properly. Some of the buttons don’t work AT ALL! Like “Add Media” and “Distraction Free Writing.” Other ones do like “Bold, Italics…”

I’ve been searching the forums for a solution. Please add a link if you know of one.

    Thanks,
    Joe

The only solution that worked for me was to delete all the old files and then completely re-uploaded all new WP files. Only files I didn’t delete were the ones I uploaded in wp-content.

Thanks to WP Yogi for the help!!!

I just read on the ‘SiteGround’ blog that a solution is to install a plugin called “Use Google Libraries”. I tried it myself and… HEY PRESTO! … all the buttons started to work. Worth a try.
[Note: I had only just created my WP website, using the latest version (5.5.2) and the default ‘Twenty Twelve’ theme, so I was pretty sure the other suggestions wouldn’t apply to me.]

Thanks a ton & ton…. its just works fine. Its the same old theme , same stuffs ,,,but just as you said i installed the plugin “use google libraries”
