    I've tried several templates but can't find one for someone without experience.

    I am working with 'Smooth' which looks pretty basic to me. I can't figure out how to removed the typed text (project name) and add a header image that has logo. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    There are thousands of WordPress themes - which means that many people won't be familiar with your particular theme. So a link to your site might help.

    Definitely link your site.

    Generally, you could try the theme settings under the appearance section.

    Thanks so much ... http://www.protocolconsultinggroup.com/blog

    A new website for Protocol Consulting Group is underway ... the blog matches the new coloring. What I would like to do is insert a logo/header/banner (.gif) at the very top http://protocolconsultinggroup.com/blog/ ... of what would be the html page is my world. php is a stranger to me and I have no clue how to do this.

    You would need to upload your logo graphic to the theme's images folder first (let's assume it's called logo.gif). Then edit header.css and change:

    #header {
    padding:0 1em;
    text-align:right;
    }

    to:

    #header {
    padding:0 1em;
    text-align:right;
    background:url(images/logo.gif) no-repeat;
    height:xx;
    }

    where xx is the height of your logo image.

    I placed logo.gif in the images folder and edited header.css but it doesn't show up.

    I tired both ways
    height:100;
    and height:100px;

    Opps. Give me a minute ... I think I see my mistake

    It is done correctly. The only thing, in the css folder every other css is KB in size. The edited header.css is 454 bytes!
    What did I do wrong?

    "Removed" ? I don't understand

    I'm open to suggestions, if there is a template easier to edit, I would love to know about it. the ems are foreign to me ... pxls would be easier.

    My guess is that the previous poster added something and then realised they'd made a mistake. I've deleted that post.

    Sorry about the image height confusion. You need to quote the header height in pixels - height:100px;. And don't worry about the (lack of) size of the header.css file.

    Thanks so much. It's done but logo.gif doesn't show-up.

    Try changing:

    background:url(images/logo.gif) no-repeat;

    to

    background:url(../images/logo.gif) no-repeat;

    There it is! With your brain this is almost fun. Many, many thanks!
    Now, how to I remove the default name ... if impossible what do I edit to make it very small?

    Once the new site has been uploaded will the ../ need to be removed?

    Thanks esmi!

    Now, how to I remove the default name

    Sorry? What default name?

    Once the new site has been uploaded will the ../ need to be removed?

    No - leave that intact. It references the image's location in relation to the header.css file. As both are within your theme folder, this relationship will remain "as is".

    Thanks ... I understand about the .../

    By 'default' name ... upper right corner (typed text)
    Protocol Consulting Group that is on top of the logo/header.

    Try editing header.php and removing:

    <h1><a href="<?php bloginfo('url');?>" title="Home"><?php bloginfo('name');?></a></h1>
    <h2></h2>

    You're amazing! Thanks! Looking better and better.

    The copyright year seems to need some help as it doesn't update automatically, it's stuck on 1999 ...

    `<?php the_time('Y'); ?> - <?php bloginfo('name'); ?>

    Try <?php echo date('Y'); ?> - <?php bloginfo('name'); ?>

    Thanks so much ... you brought me all the way to the present. Sincerely appreciated.

    Is there a list of experts who freelance?

    Not at present on wordpress.org but you can use the WP-Pro mailing list and/or http://jobs.wordpress.net/ if you are looking for paid support.
