Add element to background (7 posts)

    Hello all

I hope I'm not posting something obvious here. I did have a good look but I couldn't find an answer to my question. Here it is:

I've designing a site and it has a repeated background. I need to add an extra design element to the background of the site, a tree in fact, but I can't just edit it into the background image as it's repeating.

What I need to do is have this tree appear on the right hand side of the background, behind the page content, but I'm not entirely sure how to accomplish this. I'm guessing some kind of div with a z-index to put it in the right place, but I'm not sure.

Any information would be super. I'm using the Twenty Ten theme.

    Cheers

    Tony

Don't edit the Twenty Ten theme. Instead create a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, create amended version of header.php & footer.php that apply an extra page wrapper div.

    Thanks esmi!

    I shall do that now.

I think what I really need to know if how to create a new page div that will sit above the background, behind the content/wrapper div have the right side of it locked to the right side of the browser window.

    Does that make sense?

Yes. You need an extra (outer) wrapper div with the background image positioned on the right.

Do you reckon you'd be able to roughly draft something up?

I don't need the interior code, just the CSS to position it. My CSS skills leave a lot to be desired :)

It would be greatly appreciated, but no worries if you can't. Maybe just a bit of advise on how to achieve it would be awesome.

    Thanks

Ok, I've got a div setup with the right stuff in it. Could you tell me where to put it to get it aligned with the right hand side of the page and outside of the main content area?

Everywhere I seem to put it puts it inside the main content area where my posts are.

    Cheers for all your help.
