Add Custom Fields Programmatically

    I’m playing around with some of the Semiologic plugins which extract significant terms from the body text of a post.

    I would like to store this additional data in custom fields for the current post.

    How can I programmatically add custom fields from within the loop?

    If this is not possible, what other way would be best?
