Activity logs

Is there a logging admin function that lets me see what’s happening when , for instance, WordPress sends an email notification. I haven’t been getting any on comments lately, and I want to see if it’s my host that has the problem, or wordpress.

Also, logs of activity for wordpress would be nice for checking on all kinds of things. Movable type had this…is there something like this in wordpress? I have 2.02
