I am having the same issue with the plugin.
I have the syntax error too.
Looking at this now guys.
Hi, can you tell me what version of PHP you are running?
I’m guessing you are running something less then php 5.3 …
Same problem. I just updated teh plugin. I’m on Hostgator with php 5.2.17.
I can’t get back into the site now.
Just added php 5.3.+ activation to .htaccess file – that did it.
Here is a link how to do it (including code). It works for Hostgator sites.

@mglong, that was the same for me. By upgrading to 5.3, the spook went away. Now it’s fine.
@macs09 I’ll try and get a patch in today for backward compatibility. Mike

I’m using shared hosting so I’m not sure I can upgrade to 5.3 as easily 🙁 A patch for backward compatibility would be much appreciated. Martin
@mglong I didn’t actually change anything on my hosting account, I just updated the .htaccess file as directed in the link I published in my previous answer. Just try it.

I see Mike has updated the plugin now to remove the PHP 5.3 dependency but actually my web host migrated my site to PHP 5.3 server. I’m now sorted but have upgraded to the latest version of the plugin anyway. Thanks.
Good to hear and sorry for the inconvenience
