Activating any plugin leads to 500 error on IIS 7 (3 posts)

I have installed WordPress 2.7.1 onto IIS 7 under Win2K8 using the MS web app installer.

After the install everything works absolutely fine with WP. However, as soon as i click on activate for any plugin, I immediately start getting http 500 server errors on almost every page. I seem to still be able to access install.php (which tells me I am already installed of course) without any problem, but the main site, admin pages etc all return a 500.

Has anyone run across this issue?

As a follow up , if I turn off nice html errors in IE I get :

WordPress database error You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1 for query SELECT post_title FROM wp_posts WHERE ID= made by activate_plugin, include, include_once

So it seems that something somewhere is causing SQL statements to get messed up.

Yes, I am getting the same problem, but only on one plugin in particular - simple-forum. I had it installed on another site with no problem, but this one seems to be having a fit. Other plugins I have tried seem to install and run correctly.
